Weekend in McNairy County - Outdoorsy Girl Edition

ree

Looking for a relaxing weekend in nature? Grab your girls and look no further. McNairy County has plenty to offer. I’d start the weekend on Friday morning! Not wanting to camp Thursday night? Check out the Loft on Court Ave. in downtown Selmer or checkout the Outpost in Pickwick (Hardin County) for some good dinner and a warm bed before finishing the trek here.

The two main highlights of this weekend are going to be Big Hill Pond State Park in Pocahontas, TN and Willow Brook Campground. BHP is going through some absolutely amazing renovations - some of my personal favorite trails are closed. However, you can still go up the lookout tower and traverse plenty of miles in trails. Willow Brook Campground has over 100 acres of nature to explore, a WaterZone to spend all day in, a swimming area, fishing lake, and dedicated trails to explore. I'd also like to add they have a "Fairy Village". Is that not the cutest thing?

Here we go:

Friday:

  • Start with coffee at Brickhaven or Moody Cat - both are amazing options. I love the Iced Brown Shug from Brickhaven and the Thomas O’Malley with cold foam from Moody Cat.

  • Pack a lunch and go hike at Big Hill Pond State Park and play a round of disc golf! You could fill an entire day of fun here. It’s an amazing park. Their gift shop has some great stuff - I may or may not have shamelessly bought $10 worth of stickers while I was there.

  • After BHP you CAN’T miss Dee’s Vintage Odd’s and Ends. It is a must stop. I walk out with something every time. They have people come visit from every single state and multiple countries yearly. They’re great people and the store is packed full of neat goodies.

  • Go eat dinner at Smokey Joe’s Barbecue in Downtown Selmer - they haven’t failed me yet. It’s consistent, tasty, and clean.

  • Then, get set up at Willow Brook Campground and enjoy the rest of your evening relaxing by a bonfire.

Saturday:

  • Eat breakfast at Hope’s Cafe - I’m begging you to get chocolate gravy and biscuits. Just trust me. Grab a coffee from Christy at The Bean Scene on your way back to Selmer!

  • Go back to Selmer and stop in Mammy’s Soap Co., Byond Beleaf Apothecary, and check out other local boutiques like The In, Shiloh Rose, and KG Gifts.

  • By this time, you’re probably hungry - one of the highlights of your trip will be going to Ada’s in Bethel Springs. Grab a brisket sandwich and while you wait for lunch (and maybe a table) shop your heart out. They have everything; homeopathic remedies, gluten free items, soaps, essential oils, handmade brooms by Hockaday Brooms (they have a gift shop at the farm on Hwy 142), and fresh baked foods.

  • After spending way too much money in Ada’s on sourdough bread and everything else you can fit in your buggy, head back to Willow Brook Campground to relax in your Eno or maybe even take a kayak out on the lake.

We'd love for you to come spend the weekend with us in McNairy County! If you have any questions on what to do or where to go - call 731-439-5773 or email kayla.mcvey@mcnairycountytn.com!
